El principal órgano de Ultramar es su Directorio. Está compuesto por seis miembros. Sesiona una vez al mes, donde se abordan todas las materias relevantes vinculadas al desempeño y marcha de la organización.

Its main functions include safeguarding and strengthening the organization’s purpose and values. It ensures compliance with legal and ethical standards. It defines, validates and monitors the execution of each SBU’s strategic plans. It supports managers and strategically contributes to the general development of the company.

Presidente de Ultramar. Director de Inversiones Choshuenco e integra el Consejo Directivo del Centro de Estudios Públicos, CEP. Richard von Appen ha tenido una destacada trayectoria gremial, la que lo lleva el 2021 a ser elegido como presidente de la Sociedad de Fomento Fabril, SOFOFA, cargo que ejerció hasta mayo de 2023. Es Ingeniero Comercial de la Universidad Católica y posgraduado de la Universidad de Stanford.

Chairman of the Board

Ultranav Chairman. He has an economics degree from Universidad de Chile in Santiago and attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in Boston (USA). He is a Director of Ultranav and Chairman of Navigator Gas Holding.

Dag von Appen Burose


He has a law degree from Universidad de Chile. He is senior partner of Vial & Cía, an important law firm in Santiago, Chile. He has academic experience as a professor of civil law at Universidad de Chile and Universidad de Los Andes in Chile. He has a long track record as a director of companies operating in the mining, cement and industrial gases industries.

Felipe Vial Claro Garcés


Ingeniero Comercial y Magíster en Sociología de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Cuenta con más de 20 años de experiencia en gerencias de Recursos Humanos en el sector financiero, llegando a ocupar la posición de Gerente Corporativa de Recursos Humanos en Grupo Santander en Chile. Directora de Watt´s S.A., Zurich y presidenta del Hogar de Cristo. Consejera Electiva de Sofofa, y miembro de la Red de Mujeres en Alta Dirección, REDMAD.

Alejandra Mehech Castellón


He is a lawyer and has a masters degree in economics from Universidad Católica de Chile and masters degree in law from Harvard University. He was Chairman of Banco Santander from 2002 to 2014 and Vice Chairman of Banco Santander from 1992 to 2001. He is Managing Director of the ESE Business School at Universidad de Los Andes and Director of Inversiones Volcán Choshuenco S.A. (the Wolf von Appen Family Group). He is also a Director of Corporación Adelanto de Panguipulli and Hospital Clínico de la Universidad de Los Andes.

Mauricio Larraín Garcés


He has a business administration degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica and an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is Adjunct Professor at Pacific Union College (PUC). He is Chairman of the Capital Markets Advisory Board at the Chilean Ministry of Finance, Chairman of the Board of the Central Securities Depository, a Director of InBest, ICARE and Teletón Foundation, and former Director of the Chilean Electronic Stock Exchange.

Our History

In 1952, the captain Albert von Appen founded Ultramar as a provider of maritime agency services to Hamburg-Amerika Linie y Norddeutscher Lloyd. Providing services related to foreign trade, mainly in maritime agencies and representation of shipping companies.

Over the years, the company has expanded both, in different business segments and geographically with focus in the Americas, where it is a leading player in all core segments.
